Disney World- Lightning Lane Single and Multipass

During my recent trip to Disney World, I got the opportunity to test out the new Single and Multipass Lightning Lane systems and let me tell you, it is definitely an upgrade from Fast Pass and the original Genie+.

Visiting Disney World is always a magical experience, but with the parks’ ever-growing popularity, wait times for rides can quickly eat up your day. To help make your trip more efficient, Disney offers Lightning Lanes, a system that lets you skip the regular lines for certain attractions. But with the choice between single and multipass options, which should you choose? Let’s break it down.

What Are Lightning Lanes?

Lightning Lanes are a replacement for the old FastPass+ system and Genie+ system. They allow you to reserve access to shorter lines at many of Disney World’s most popular attractions. Guests staying at a Walt Disney Resort hotel will be able to pre-purchase this option 7 days prior to the first day of their trip, starting at 7AM/ET. All other guests will be able to pre-purchase 3 days before their trip.

Single Lightning Lane

For Disney’s top-tier attractions, like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or Avatar Flight of Passage, you have the option to purchase a single Lightning Lane entry. This means you can skip the regular line for that one ride on the day of your visit. Single passes are ideal if:

  • You’re focused on a specific ride: If there’s one must-do attraction on your list, the single pass ensures you get on it without waiting for hours.

  • You’re on a tight budget: Individual Lightning Lanes cost extra, but if you only want to skip the line for one or two rides, it can be more cost-effective than the Multipass service.

  • You’re visiting on a less crowded day: On days when the park is less busy, you might not need to skip lines for every ride, making single passes more appealing.

Multipass Lightning Lane

The Multipass Lightning Lane option allows you to access Lightning Lanes for multiple rides throughout the day. For one price, you can reserve shorter lines at a variety of attractions across the park. This is a great option if:

  • You want to maximize your time: With access to multiple rides, you can experience more attractions without spending your day in line.

  • You’re visiting during peak season: When the parks are packed, Genie+ can be a lifesaver, helping you avoid the longest waits.

  • You love variety: If your goal is to hit as many rides as possible, Genie+ gives you the flexibility to do just that.

Once you scan into one ride, you can select another ride. Keep in mind that some rides have one scan point at the front of the ride while some have two scan points. You can also park hop after scanning in to your first ride, making selections at a different theme park.

Which One Should You Choose?

The choice between single and multipass Lightning Lanes depends largely on your priorities and the specifics of your visit.

  • For families with young children, the Multipass option is often the better value since it allows you to access a wide range of attractions without long waits. This is especially helpful if you’re juggling the needs of little ones who might not have the patience for long lines.

  • If you’re a thrill-seeker with your sights set on Disney’s most popular rides, a single Lightning Lane for your top pick might suffice. You can always combine it with standby lines or Genie+ for other attractions.

  • On a tight schedule? If you’re only visiting Disney World for a day or two, Genie+ can help you see and do more in a short amount of time. However, if there’s just one ride you absolutely can’t miss, the single Lightning Lane might be a better investment.

Tips for Using Lightning Lanes

  • Book early: When your early booking window opens (either 7 or 3 days prior to your stay) make sure to purchase and make your selections. After purchasing your multipass, you can choose up to 3 attractions. One of these attractions can be a Tier 1 attraction and the other 2 must be Tier 2. Or you can select three Tier 2 attractions. (I know that all sounds complicated but don’t stress. All of my clients get a special guide for which ride is which tier and I will walk you through the process).

  • Prioritize your must-do attractions: Make a list of your top rides and try to secure Lightning Lanes for those first.

  • Mix and match: There’s no rule that says you can’t use both single and multipass options. For example, you can purchase a single Lightning Lane for a ride like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and use the Multipass for other attractions.

Final Thoughts:

Both single and Multipass Lightning Lanes can enhance your Disney World experience, but the best choice depends on your specific plans and preferences. Whether you’re looking to make the most of a single day or enjoy a more relaxed pace, understanding your options will help you navigate the parks like a pro.

Whichever option you choose, remember that the most important part of your Disney World trip is to enjoy the magic.
